Lahore, known as the city of gardens and the vibrant capital of Punjab, continues to innovate its transportation system. Following the successful introduction of the Orange Line Train and Metro Bus Service, the city is now set to launch another groundbreaking project. For the first time in the province, Lahore will experience the country’s inaugural tram service.
Provincial Approval for the Tram Service
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz granted approval for this new initiative during a meeting at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters. The tram service aims to streamline transportation while enhancing the urban aesthetics of the city.
Planned Route and Stops
The proposed 11-kilometer tram route will traverse key locations such as Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road. Stops will be conveniently placed every 1 to 1.5 kilometers, offering residents and visitors an efficient way to navigate the city’s bustling center.
Modern Tram Designs
Drawing inspiration from Finland and China, the modern tram designs will provide a comfortable and stylish commuting experience, making daily travel a pleasure.
Enhancing Urban Aesthetics
The tram service is not just about improving functionality but also about enhancing Lahore’s visual appeal. MM Alam Road will undergo significant transformations, including remodeling and beautification efforts. The introduction of uniform roads and tuff tiles will contribute to a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing streetscape.
Comprehensive Urban Development
The project will extend to Gulberg and its surrounding areas, with construction, renovation, and rehabilitation plans in place to ensure seamless integration with the city’s existing infrastructure.
Future Developments
While the official launch date for the tram service is yet to be announced, the government is committed to swift project completion. Ticket prices will be determined upon finalization of the project. Additionally, the Chief Minister has approved a signal-free corridor from Kareem Block to the Motorway, aiming to further improve traffic management in Lahore.
Lahore residents can look forward to these infrastructure upgrades, which promise to enhance the overall urban experience in the city.
