Breaking the Silence: CM Bugti’s Urgent Appeal for Gwadar Negotiations

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has voiced strong opposition against what he terms a “one-sided narrative” and “propaganda” related to the ongoing sit-in in Gwadar. In a recent address, he extended an invitation to Dr. Mahrang Baloch and the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) for negotiations to restore peace.

Call for Negotiations Amidst Violence

CM Bugti reported that 16 Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were injured during the Gwadar violence, with one losing an eye. He stressed that while the state would not be held hostage by any group, it remained open to dialogue for the sake of peace. “We once again invite Mahrang Baloch for negotiations,” he stated.

Criticism of Media Coverage

Speaking at the Balochistan Assembly, Bugti criticized the portrayal of the Gwadar incident by both international and local media. He accused India and the UK of highlighting the issue for their agendas and some local political leaders of exploiting it for votes. “In Gwadar, violent mobs have attacked security forces,” Bugti emphasized, adding that the government’s duty is to protect all citizens from such violence.

Government’s Response to the Sit-In

Bugti detailed the government’s approach to the Gwadar protest, noting that they had asked the BYC to relocate their rally to ensure peace. He claimed the government was prepared to support the rally if held elsewhere. “We were aware of their intentions to disrupt peace and order,” he said, pointing out that the protest escalated to violence against security personnel.

Denouncement of False Claims and Social Media

The Chief Minister refuted claims that the entire province was shut down due to the protest, asserting that life continued normally in all divisions. He criticized social media for spreading misinformation and creating discord, emphasizing that “the people of Balochistan know that their progress is with Pakistan.”

Progress and Open Doors for Dialogue

Highlighting Balochistan’s development, Bugti mentioned that a Baloch individual currently serves as the President of Pakistan, symbolizing the region’s progress. He reaffirmed the government’s readiness for dialogue, stating, “The doors for negotiations remain open. We are prepared to accept all demands of the protesters, except one.”

Addressing the Issue of Abductions

Bugti questioned the silence over the abductions of non-locals, suggesting that certain factions are trying to create a rift between the government and the people. He emphasized that Balochistan cannot afford further unrest and called for unity and cooperation for the region’s stability and development.

Conclusion

CM Sarfraz Bugti’s statements reflect the Balochistan government’s firm stance against violence and propaganda while advocating for peaceful negotiations. By inviting Dr. Mahrang Baloch and the BYC for talks, Bugti aims to restore peace and address the concerns of the protesters, ensuring the stability and progress of the region.
